Mr. Cooney has been involved in the appraisal/investment banking profession since 1994. Mr. Cooney’s emphasis is in the valuation and brokerage of business enterprises and closely-held stock. He has completed analyses and appraisals for a variety of types of clients and has assisted in purchase and sale transactions.

Prior to joining Capital Advisors, Inc. in 1996, Mr. Cooney was a Business Valuation Analyst in the Business Services Department of Commerce Bank, where he was involved in the valuation of numerous closely-held companies, limited partnerships and intangible assets. Prior to that position, Mr. Cooney analyzed hundreds of businesses in Commerce Bank's Management Training Program. Mr. Cooney's analyses were utilized in credit decisions ranging from small business loans and mortgages to large commercial revolving lines of credit.

Mr. Cooney graduated from Indiana University in 1993 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Finance. In 1992, Mr. Cooney also completed a series of international business/economics courses at the University of Limburg in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

Mr. Cooney is accredited in business valuation by the American Society of Appraisers (Senior Member). He successfully completed the Society’s four valuation courses, ethics examination and the Uniform Standard’s of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) course. He is a past President of the St. Louis Chapter.

Mr. Cooney is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute (CFAI). He was awarded the charter by CFAI in September 2000 after passing CFAI’s three examinations and meeting its professional and ethical criteria.

Mr. Cooney co-authored an article entitled Valuing Family Limited Partnerships that was published in the March 1998 issue of St. Louis Lawyer. He has spoken on the topic of business valuation at a seminar sponsored by the Missouri Society of Accountants. Mr. Cooney has qualified to testify as an expert witness before the St. Louis County Circuit Court.
